I was reading in the 2005 edition of "USA BY Rail" that there was a posibility of running a train called the "Aztec Eagle" from San Antonio to Monterey in Mexico.  Was ithe idea ever seriously considered or is it still in Amtrak's plans for the future?

I have a couple of questions please:

1.  Why is the roomette fare so much higher for an overnight trip New York to Chicago than for the 2 nights from Chicago to Los Angeles?  My fares for next May are $344 and $287 respectively.  Is the roomette on the Lake Shore Limited that much more comofortable than that of the Southwest Chief? 

2.  Is the roomette what used to be referred to as a slumbercoach room?
